Joe Batir, a geology major from Channahon, IL is a 2008 Morris K. Udall Scholar, and a 2009 Fulbright Scholar. Joe plans to pursue a Master of Science degree in Geothermal energy resources at The School for Renewable Energy Science in Akureyri, Iceland and his PhD at Southern Methodist University.

The Office of Major Scholarship
Advisement (OMSA) is the central
coordinating office on campus
that provides information, advice,
and support for students who
wish to apply for nationally
competitive major scholarships.
The OMSA scholarships are highly competitive,
typically requiring a minimum overall
grade point average of 3.75 or higher.
In addition to academic excellence,
each scholarship requires that a
student have an outstanding record
of:
- service
- leadership
- research
- or all of the above.
If you feel that you have the potential
to compete successfully for one or
more major scholarships, you need
to take the following steps:
